Be a Pirate Cargo Hold Guide: How Much Your Ship Holds and What to Do When It's Full
Be a Pirate ships have a limited cargo hold. See how the Stored in Hold counter works, what to do when the hold is full, and how to get more cargo space.
Quick answer
Every ship in Be a Pirate has a limited cargo hold, and the starting raft stores just 2 chests. When the hold is full you cannot stow another chest — sail back to Starter Port with what you have, open your chests at the Treasure Broker to free space, and buy a bigger ship at the Shipwright to carry more.
- Boarding your ship auto-stows a carried chest, and the 'Stored in Hold' counter shows space used — 'Stored in Hold: 1/2' on the starter raft.
- A full hold refuses new chests; the blocked chest gets left behind.
- Opening chests at the Treasure Broker at Starter Port empties the hold.
- The Dinghy upgrade promises 'more cargo space', and the Ironclad, described as the best boat in the game, lists 170 cargo.
Every treasure run in Be a Pirate revolves around the same limit: how much your ship can stow. Here is how the hold works, what to do the moment it fills up, and how to earn more cargo room.
How the cargo hold works
Dig where the ground glows gold on a treasure island and the chest jumps into your arms when it lands — you carry it back to your ship by hand. The moment you board, the chest stows itself in the hold and the 'Stored in Hold' counter ticks up; on the starting raft it reads 'Stored in Hold: 1/2', because the raft holds 2 stowed items. With a chest aboard, your objective becomes returning to Starter Port, where the Treasure Broker opens it for you.
That makes treasure runs a simple loop:
The treasure run loop
Dig up a chest
Find glowing sand on a treasure island and dig — the chest pops out and jumps into your arms.
Stow it aboard
Carry the chest to your ship and board; it stows in the hold automatically and the 'Stored in Hold' counter rises.
Sail to Starter Port
Your objective switches to returning to Starter Port while the chest rides in the hold.
Open it at the Treasure Broker
The broker at Starter Port opens your chests and pays out, emptying hold space.
An emptied hold lets you sail straight back out and fill it again on the next digging trip.
For your next haul, the Be a Pirate treasure locations guide lists the islands worth sailing to.
What to do when the hold is full
The hold is a hard limit. Boarding with another chest once it is full simply fails — one mid-game player with a small early ship hit the wall after several chests: "I think I ran out of room... I'm out of room already." The blocked chest could not be stored, so he sailed back to Starter Port without it.
That is also the practical fix: don't keep trying to cram the chest in — sail home with what you have and open your chests at the Treasure Broker. Opening them frees hold space, so you can head straight back out for the next load. On the 2-slot starting raft that means a chest or two per trip, so watch the 'Stored in Hold' counter while you dig instead of discovering the limit on the beach.
Opening chests is also where treasure turns into coins and gear — the Be a Pirate selling guide covers that side in detail.
How to get more cargo space
Upgrading your ship at the Shipwright is the in-game way to more cargo room. The first step up from the raft is the Dinghy, which lands with the banner "DINGHY UNLOCKED! Faster, sturdier and more cargo space!" The banner doesn't quote a number, but cargo is one of the per-ship stats listed at the Shipwright, so compare it before you buy. At the top end, the Ironclad — described as the best boat in the game — lists 170 cargo alongside 44 cannons, 40 mod slots and room for 36 crew.

The 'Big Cargo Hold' store item
The Pirate Store's Gifts tab lists a 'Big Cargo Hold' product for 299 Robux alongside other paid perks. The listing itself doesn't state exactly what it changes, so treat the dependable free route as your baseline: upgrade ships at the Shipwright and bank your chests at the Treasure Broker often.
